When to ask for an assessment
Tell us what changed immediately before the problem appeared. A coding session, software update, part replacement or retrofit can each require a different investigation. Examples of enquiries we assess include:
- A previously working function is missing after coding.
- A coding attempt failed and the module configuration needs checking.
- The vehicle behaves differently after a retrofit or module replacement.
- A warning persists and the workshop needs to establish whether configuration is involved.
What we check
We review the vehicle details, symptoms, fault codes and history of changes. On the car, module communication and installed hardware and software help determine the next step. A VIN provides useful build information, but cannot by itself confirm the current module condition or a guaranteed correction.
Coding correction or further repair?
Where the cause is a supported configuration issue, we agree the correction, save relevant coding data where supported, make the change and verify the affected functions. If the evidence points to wiring, hardware, power supply or a software programming requirement, we explain what needs attention before proceeding. Clearing a fault code alone is not a repair.
Cost and local availability

Questions before booking
Can you investigate coding done by someone else?
Yes. Share the symptoms and as much information as you have about the previous changes. We assess the current vehicle state before confirming whether a correction or restoration is possible.
Can you restore the original settings?
That depends on the module, software, available backups and changes already made. We assess what can be restored and explain the limits before work starts; not every change can simply be reversed.
Does every BMW warning mean it needs coding?
No. Faults may originate in hardware, wiring, power supply or software. Diagnosis is used to distinguish these before deciding whether coding is appropriate.
Can a workshop send you its diagnostic report?
Yes. Send the report, vehicle details and job history through the agreed contact channel. Include the specific function or fault that needs attention so the enquiry can be assessed.
